Thank you to the parents who could join us for arts and crafts, year 3 created some fantastic wire flower sculptures which have decorated our outside space.
Spring Term 1
Maths Parent Morning
The children really enjoyed our maths morning which was linked to our text in literacy of the Novis Avis!
The novis avis needed help creating a new dwelling.
- He needed help with the perimeter of his new den.
- The natural materials he needed to use had to be a certain length!
- Roosting high in the branches, he needed to make sure things he brought back were not too heavy!
- He needs it be far away from those pesky people of Devon.
- It is thirsty work. Help him make a tasty drink
Year 3 really enjoyed making him a drink, especially the gooey snot juice!
Y3 VIRTUAL LIBRARY

Odd Socks Day!
We all enjoyed getting involved by coming to school in our odd socks for the day.
Maths Stories – Maths morning Sept 2023
Year 3 enjoyed our first maths morning of the year where we read the book Just a Second. We enjoying looking at what things we could do in a second/minute/hour. Thanks to all the parents who came along and joined in.

Maya visit
Our school dog Maya came in and listened to us read today.
Hepworth Art Gallery Visit
We were very lucky to visit the Hepworth gallery in Wakefield and meet an artist to talk about about all the different types of art. We even had a go at being an artisit!
Money matters – Yorkshire Building Society
We were really luck to have Yorkshire Building Society in today to talk about money, what we need it for and how to budget effectively.
Selby Civic Society visit
Today we had Selby Civic Society visit us and tell us all about the local history of Selby. There are lots of famous people that were born in Selby, even a past King! Did you know that the equipment used in table tennis was patented from someone who lived in Selby?
We even rolled out a length of kitchen roll to represent a timeline from 1069 to the present day. Look how far it went!
Selby Library visit
We were very lucky to have a lovely walk to the library today and learn all about how the library works and we even got the chance to take a book out on our new library cards.
Local History visit
Today we were really lucky to have James from Selby library come in and talk to us about sources of evidence.
King Charles III’s Coronation
We celebrated the coronation in lots of ways today with an assembly, a writing competition and a coronation themed orienteering course.

‘Now and then’ – This term we are studying Britain’s Anglo -Saxon settlements, invasions and kingdoms.

Stay and create – Pablo Picasso
Thank you to all the parents that cam eand enjoyed our art session today. We had lots of fun creating a piece of artwork in the style of Pablo Picasso.
Mosque visit
We were very lucky to visit a mosque in Leeds today and learned all about the Islamic religion

Anglo Saxon artefacts – clay
Today we created our own Anglo – Saxon artefacts using clay and modelling tools
Author visit
We were very lucky to have the author Elizabeth Green come in and talk about her published book ‘The Adventures of Detective Dopeyworth’ today.
Maths morning
We enjoyed lots of adults coming into the classroom to help us discover more about measure today.

Year 3 have been learning basic first aid.
Design and Technology – Moving vehicles
We have been designing and making a moving vehicle which included the skills of cutting and securing parts to the vehicle.

‘Come to the carnival’ – This term we are studying South America, their carnivals, the countries, their human and physical features, the rainforests and much more!

Stay and create – winter edition!
Today we had lots of additional adults in the classroom to help make the tree decorations to sell at the Christmas Fayre. Thank you to all that helped, we had a brilliant time!
Black History Month
We have been looking at black influential people from the past and the present. Today we are making some artwork on Sir Mo Farah.
Carnival masks
We have begun to make our South American carnival masks!
Music performance
We were extremely lucky to have the North Yorkshire music service in school to deliver a mini concert and talk to us all about the different musical instruments that are available to learn in school. If you are interested in learning a new instrument watch out for the letter coming home soon!
Maths drop in – Maths trail
We had a brilliant time exploring the school grounds and working on our maths trail. Thank you to all the adults that were able to come in and spend time helping the children.

Stay and create
Thank you to all the adults that were able to come in to our stay and create session today. We hope you all enjoyed it. We made a collage of the Queen for her Jubilee.
Judo taster session
Today we had Balazs come into school from Hajime Judo Club to show us some basics about Judo. If you are interested in taking judo up as a sport please see the leaflet that came home from today’s session.
Skipping workshop
Today we had Chris visit from Skipping School to show us the skills of skipping. We had lots of fun!
Up and at ’em History visit
Today we had a visit from Jed from Up and at ’em History. We learned all about the Vikings and why they invaded, Viking burials, Viking games, Viking weapons and we even had an Anglo-Saxon and Viking battle of our own! At the end of the day we talked about crime and punishment for those that did not follow the rules!
Yorkshire sculpture park visit
Today we visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and saw some fantastic sculptures. We talked about what we could make sculptures from and what they represented.
STEM afternoon – marble run
This afternoon we made a marble run and tried to make it go as slow as possible. We tinkered and used trial and error. How slow do you think the marbles went?
Jubilee celebrations
Today we celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee in style!
Greencore soup making
Today we had Greencore visit us and make our soup designs. We had a brilliant time learning about how soup is made, following a method and adjusting our soup to taste with herbs and spices. We hope that the adults at home enjoy eating the soup as much as we enjoyed making it! A huge thank you to the staff at Greencore for giving up their time and expertise in our project. We love the freebies too 🙂
Pumpkin planting
Today we planted our pumpkins and put them in the greenhouse to germinate! We are really excited to see the results!
Vikings!
Today we discovered a box with lots of fantastic Viking artefacts inside, what do you think they were used for?
Greencore virtual meeting
Today we met with the team from Greencore to talk about our soup designs, the two winning soup designs were chosen and we will now start plans to make them!
Spring term 2022 – Beautiful Britain
This term we will be looking at our wonderful countryside, in particular the North Yorkshire Moors.

Longman’s in Bloom competition
Today we made our entries for Longman’s in Bloom. We created a piece of artwork called ‘folding the iris’. We then studied each piece of work individually, discussed what we liked and thought about improvements to our own.
Soup tasting
Today we tasted soups kindly donated from Greencore.
We tasted a variety of soups and rated them using a criteria ready to plan and make our own soups over the next few weeks. Can you tell if we enjoyed them or not by our faces? Which would your favourite be?
Red Nose Day 2022
Science week
Recent research has shown that sharks grow 1cm every year, so we are able to work out how old a shark is just by measuring it! We wondered, for Science week, if this applies to humans? Is the oldest child in year 3 the tallest?
World Book Day 2022
Today we had a visitor in to talk to us all about Islamic prayer.
We had a visitor in to talk to us all about rocks and soils this week.
Autumn term 2021 – Shang Dynasty
This term we are looking at the history of the Shang Dynasty along with creating a foundation for maths using place value and the four operations. We will also be looking at rocks in Science and learning to play the glockenspiel in music.

Today we have been investigating rocks and finding out what we know about them before our unit of work.
We have been learning that speed is not important when completing mathematical questions and that deeper thinking is a good thing!
